Wat Zijn Porter's Five Forces of Competition?

Industriële organisatie is een vakgebied waarin de verschillen tussen de "perfecte" concurrentie onder bedrijven in economische handboeken worden onderzocht en de "onvolmaakte" concurrentie in de echte wereld. Een hulpmiddel uit het veld is Michael Porter's "five forces" -analyse, vanaf het begin van zijn seminale boek Competitive Strategy. Porter ontwikkelde de vijf krachtenanalyse als een strengere variatie van de veel gebruikte SWOT analyse. Het kader richt zich op het niveau van de concurrentie binnen een bedrijfstak om de strategische positie van een onderneming te evalueren. In tegenstelling tot de SWOT-analyse onderzochten de vijf krachten de bedrijfsomgeving, in plaats van een bepaald bedrijf zelf te onderzoeken. Samen met de PEST analyse, graaft het dieper in de mogelijkheden en bedreigingen van de SWOT.
