Bij het maken van een storyboard voor film is het van essentieel belang dat de beelden het script weerspiegelen. Beweging staat centraal bij deze beelden: de bewegingen van de karakters en objecten binnen de scène, evenals de beweging van de camera die het waarneemt. In plaats van de beschrijvingsdoos neer te zetten met vervelende details van elke actie, laat het beeld de beweging van een scene communiceren. Pijlen zijn een eenvoudige en herkenbare manier om beweging of progressie te tonen.
