In 1920, Congress passed the 18th amendment, which passed prohibition. This banned the manufacture, transportation, and selling of alcohol.
People often "bootlegged" alcohol by illegally shipping it in from Canada and Mexico on ships on the coast.
The 21st amendment was passed in 1933. This amendment ended Prohibition!
