  • I recognize this boy. Ishmeal wasn't it?
  • I am Moriba.
  • Gaesmu, I recognize you! Please help us!
  • I am Kanei.
  • Chapter 11
  • I'm sorry, boys. I know your family was here, Ishmael. This is where they settled.
  • If you had not delayed me, I would be able to talk to them!
  • In the orange shirt is Alhaji. In the green shirt is Moriba. In the red shirt is Kanei. In the black shirt is Ishmael. In the blue shirt is the deceased friend that ate a sudden-death crow, Saidu. The live boys mourn for their friends death. They decide to keep moving on their journey to find their families.

  • As the boys keep venturing on their journey, they reach a village and Ishmael recognizes a man named Gaesmu, one of the notorious single men of Mattru Jong. Gasemu notices Ishmael and informs him that his family is looking for him.

  • As Gasemu and the young boys travel to find Ishmael's family, he suggests they take a slow, steady pace. Ishmael later calls for rest, which angers Ishamel. Once they reach the village, they have noticed that the village has been burned and the place where Ishmael's family lies, is gone.

  • GAESMUE!!!!!!!! NOOOO!!! I'M SORRY! I WISH TO HAVE NEVER THROWN THAT GOSH DANG PESTLE!
  • Ishmael is angered with Gaesmu's shenanigans and his little delays that Ishmael throws a pestle at him (or in this case a rock). The boys try to hold Ishmael back. Gasemu understands Ishmael's anger.
  • Before things get worse, ten rebels appear. They are congratulating each other on the burning villages. The boys and Gasemu are hiding. One of the rebels fires their gun, and one of the boys make a sound, drawing the rebels attention. As if on cue, the group prepares to run away.
  • RUN, BOYS! THEY HEARD US!
  • It is night time... Gasemu and the boys have escaped the rebels as it is too dark and raining. Gasemu falls to the ground and begins sobbing. The boys pick Gasemu up and discover that he had been shot in the leg and side by the rebels during their chase. Gasemu gives them directions to a wahlee. Gasemu asks to be set down Later on he dies. The boys carry Gasemu to the wahlee. Ishmael feels guilt.
