Stages of Production
The start of this process consists of carrying out research. This research includes looking at other magazines and how they produce, design and represent their product. The genre in which I decided to work in was Indie, to gain more knowledge on the genre I researched where it came from and what it means. After this I then did heavy exploration by looking at real media magazine products and how the represented the genre by using conventions. Some examples of the Indie music magazine conventions consisted of using the rule of thirds, a simple colour scheme using only three colours ( the most common scheme was black, white and red) and presenting their artists as edgy.
Content Preparation and Planning
For content preparation and planning for my magazine, I used a lot of the research that was done previously to help me. I looked at real media products and really anaylised what was included in there content as well as how they presented it. After this I went to work on designing flat plans of what I wanted my indie magazine to look like, not only this but I also worked on what content would be included. By creating flat plans as well as creating drafts of certain pieces of text I wanted to appear in articles this helped when it came to producing and making my magazine.
The next part to producing my magazine was to complete the photo shoots that were needed to feature in my magazine. However before this I needed to understand what sort of locations I would need to use as settings in my images. To do this I looked back on my research and different setting that the real media products used. I found that outside locations were one of the main attributes as seen a lot of examples. So I decided to then follow this idea. Using models which I had chosen and who represented the genre of Indie themselves witch elements such as costume for example the photoshoots took place.
Creating The Magazine
After taking the images I needed to then started creating the actual product. Using my flat plans I then designed the product. Making changes to small details along the way I was able to bring to life the genre in which I was aiming to target. Each element added needed to be considered in how it would help my magazine, how it was useful and if this was making the correct representation that linked back to the genre.
Distributing To an Auidence
The next step would obviously be distributing the product to an audience in which they can receive and view the aspect itself. In order to do this I would need to choose the right distributer that would fit with my target audience as well as one that would market as well as one that would allow me to promote my product.
