  • Dad we don't understand how this compass works!
  • Well boys it's something called magnetism, let me tell you what it is.
  • Magnetism phenomena that comes from the force caused by magnets, which are objects that produce fields that attract or repel other objects.
  • The boys and their dad decide to take a walk throughout the countryside to continue talking about how magnetism works
  • Now we get it!
  • Your compass has an N on it for North so the north pole uses magnetism to point it in that direction.
  • The boys and their dad go back inside to test out an experiment.
  • WOW!
  • The iron in this nail is very magnetic if i use this magnet it will attract the nail.
  • So does the compass sort of work like a magnet?
  • That's right! Now you're getting it.
