  • I said no chewing gum in my class!
  • What!!
  • Frindle!!!
  • In the beginning Nick was entering 5th grade and was very mischevious. Even before 5th grade, changing the class into a beach! In 5th grade, Nick used the Blackbird discovery a research project he stumbled on to, to annoy the teacher, by chirping and no one knowing who did it.
  • How do you spell Pen class? p-e-n
  • Nicks newest teacher on the other hand, was very strict. If you chewed gum in class, she would make you pin it onto a bright green post-it note and wear it for the day!
  • I would like to give you some money for a vacation
  • Thank you Nick!
  • Nick was very creative,he created his very own word that meant pen, but was said frindle, made him famous and even was put in the dictionary. Using his word, he told everyone to say "Frindle" and hold one up in the school picture. Who would have thought of their very own word?
  • I knew you could succeed, Nick
  • Mrs. Granger did not like the new word, she wanted everyone to stop saying it, she was stubborn. Anyone who did say the new word would get detention and would have to write the sentence " I am writing this with a pen". Also, when everyone did their spelling test, they spelled frindle instead fo pen and was marked wrong.
  • F-R-I-N-D-L-E
  • At the end, Nick changed a lot, he became less troublesome, keeping ideas to himself, and became more kind- hearted. As he got older, Making all of the profit from his famous word, he donated some to Mrs. Granger's fund and to his parents.
  • On the other side, Mrs. Granger changed also, the author revealed that she all along was very wise. She predicted Nicks word would succeed and eventually be put in the dictionary. She even made a note before the word war ended saying that she knew what would happen.
