  • In the Mid - 1700s revival First Awakening Stirred the colonies and the religious interest had became a thing and people then traveled to hear singing, preaching, prayers, and weeping.
  • Abolitionists 
  • utopias are communities based on a vision of perfect society. reformers improved society by forming utopias. A lot of the communities did not last. A group called Mormons formed some lasting communities.
  • The Early Movement 
  • slavery is getting out of hand we need to stop this 
  • Improving education is something the reformers wanted to make happen . They tried it and it was . Blacks were not allowed at school. It got better sooner then later. But in this time it was terrible. In 1839 Massachusetts founded the first supported normal school. Now its required that everyone every race must attend school.
  • The Colonization Plan
  • Someone who favors the abolition of a practice or institution. Reformers were abolitionists in the early 1800s. Reformers were soon against slavery. And sought the end of slavery.
  • Before the Revolution, several Americans wanted to end slavery. Support systems thought that ending slavery would give the South's economy time to adjust to the lost of enslaved labor 
  • Antislavery societies says it need to be ended gradually 
  • Some white abolitionists worried about the affect African Americans would have on society. They didn't like that the fact African Americans would be free into the united states. A strong group of white people called the Colonization Society
