  • King George the 3rd and the British members of the parliament placed a stamp at to pay for debts from French and Indian war.
  • They Placed the taxes on materials like documents, News papers and even playing cards.
  • When colonists bought these items they had to buy a stamp and put it on it on it to show they payed tax.
  • When the news of the stamp act reached the colonies they reacted with anger.
  • By 1756 the American colonies already had a long tradition of self government sense they never voted for parliament.
  • This led to a protest and more colonists decided not to pay british taxes.
