King George the 3rd and the British members of the parliament placed a stamp at to pay for debts from French and Indian war.
They Placed the taxes on materials like documents, News papers and even playing cards.
When colonists bought these items they had to buy a stamp and put it on it on it to show they payed tax.
When the news of the stamp act reached the colonies they reacted with anger.
By 1756 the American colonies already had a long tradition of self government sense they never voted for parliament.
This led to a protest and more colonists decided not to pay british taxes.
