Harriet Tubman was one of the most famous activists that led the underground railroad that to Canada, The USA, and Mexican.
The underground railroad was an escape route for slaves who wanted to be free around 1820-1861
Slaves were escaping because they were being neglected. This underground railroad helped our country by showing how bad slaves wanted to be free and what they would go through to do so. This would help show how bad slavery is and abolish it.
One hero of the underground railroad was Levi Coffin, a Quaker who is said to have helped around 3,000 slaves gain freedom. The railroad wasn't even an underground railroad it was that because of how hidden it was in the woods.
Slavery hurt our nation because it caused war, poverty, and racial problems. That all could've been avoided if Andrew Johnson said no slavery.
Levi Coffin was known as the "President of the underground railroad"and his home as the "Grand Station of The Underground railroad".
