So the French wanted the Ohio Valley River. But the British wanted it too. So the French sided with the Indians and the British sided with the colonists.
Benjamin Franklin tried convincing the colonists to help in the war by having a sign saying "Join or Die" but the colonists refuse.
After the British won the French and Indian War, the British were in a lot debt, so by trying to fix that, put on taxes on the colonists. They also put the Proclamation line of 1773, which basically said colonists couldn't settle beyond the Appalachian Mountains.
