The story "Making Bombs For Hitler" takes place during World War II in 1943 with the main character, Lida.Lida and her sister, Larissa get captured by the Nazis and are forced onto a train to a brutal work camp in Germany. Lida and her sister get separated .
Lida and her friends Luka and Zenia are captured by the Nazis. Lida is forced to work as a seamstress but she lied about her age so she can work and will be useful. Luka and Zenia work in a factory. Lida wants to find a way back home with her sister and her grandma.
Lida is very good at sewing and works with her friend named Inge. When Inge found out that Lida was doing a terrific job at sewing, she gave her a brand new dress. Lida thanked her but gave the dress to Zenia, her dress was ripped with holes and was very dirty. That showed to Inge that Lida was very kind.
Lida gets promoted to work at the bomb factory because the mean workers say that she's good with her hands. When Lida tells her friends they realize that the dirt looks like gunpowder they use in the bombs. So, the next day, Lida sabotages the bombs and doesn't get caught.
Luka tells Lida that he found out that his father is alive so he has to leave the cam and go wit his dad. Luka asks Lida if she wants to go but she says no because she still needs to find Larissa. Days later ,Luka comes back all beaten up and tells Lida that the people who told him his dad was alive lied and he was glad Lida didn't come wit him. Luka was so hurt tht he almost died. After a few days, Luka was fine.
Lida receives a letter from her sister Larissa after many years of seeing each other. The letter talks about how she got adopted and lives in Canada. Larissa wants Lida to immigrate to where she is and that she misses her dearly. So, Lida decides to move to Canada and Lida takes Luka with her. THE END!
