It's the new kid's first day. He is black, unlike the others and when he walks in the class Trevor calls him an inappropriate name.
They go to lunch and the new kid has nobody to sit with. He was all alone. Kids were not being very nice to him.
Just because we don't have the same skin tone doesn't make him different!
Nobody even likes you cause your black. Go back to your country.
Then Frannie and her friends start seeing things differently. Frannie is a strong generous person who knows what the value and meaning of family.
Frannie talks to him and finds out is name is ''Jesus Boy''. She talks to him and he says that he knows sign language, and so does Frannie.
Jesus Boy is picked on alot by Trevor. Trevor bullies him because Jesus Boy is black. This is the 1970's, so racism was common.
Later on Samantha asks Frannie why she helped him out. ''I don't know I just did.'' Frannie responds. Samantha replies with, ''Well that was the right thing to do!''
