What did the Assassination of Lincoln show?
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863. This freed all slaves in rebelling territtories and shifted the main focus of the war to slavery.
Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysess S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865. This marked the end of the Civil War and the end of the Confederate states.
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14,1865 while he was watching a play. This shocked the union and showed that Lincoln had payed the ultimate sacrafice for the war and slavery. Andrew Johnson became president afterwards.
