  • This story opens with a brawl on the streets of Verona between servants of the Montague and Capulet households. Benvolio is drawn into the fight by Tybalt while attempting to stop it. The fight escalates as more citizens and the head of the households join in. Prince Escalus stops the fight with a warning of a penalty of death the next time someone starts a fight.
  • Act 2
  • Romeo and his friends sneak into Capulet's annual feast. Romeo spots Juliet and falls in love with her instantly. Tybalt recognizes Romeo's voice and tells Capulet. Capulet lets Romeo stay because of his great character and to keep peace in the party.  Romeo and Juliet exchange their kisses but are interrupted by the nurse. Romeo discovers that Juliet is a Capulet from the nurse, knowing the dangers of their love. When Romeo leaves, Juliet finds out that Romeo is a Montague.
  • Act 3
  • Romeo successfully escapes Mercutio and Benvolio and leaps over the Capulet's garden wall. Juliet appears on the balcony calling for Romeo. Juliet wishes Romeo had a different name so that they wouldn't be enemies. Romeo interrupts Juliet and expresses his own feelings towards her. Juliet insists that if Romeo truly loves her, then that he should propose a marriage , and then they finally part. 
  • Act 3
  • Romeo comes up to Friar Laurence at the chapel while he was picking up herbs. Romeo confesses his new love and asks him to marry them. Though Friar Laurence is surprised by how fast Romeo has gotten about Rosaline, he agrees to marry them hoping to unite the two families and end their feud. 
  • Tybalt approaches Benvolio and Mercutio and asks one of them where Romeo is. Annoyed, Mercuitio taunts Tyblalt. Tybalt shifts his attention as Romeo enters, calling Romeo a villain. Tybalt asks Romeo to pull up his sword but Romeo says he has a good reason not to. Mercutio angrily draws up his sword to Tybalt since Romeo didn't. As Romeo tries to stop them fighting, Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo's arm and then runs away. An angry Romeo kills Tybalt when he comes back.
  • The aftermath of these incidents lead Romeo to be banished from Verona. Friar Laurence says Romeo is lucky to be banished then killed but Romeo isn't convinced. Friar Laurence stops Romeo from killing himself saying that he has much to be greatful since both Juliet and him are alive. Friar Laurence plans Romeo to visit Juliet that night and then leave to Mauntua until news of their marriage is spread. Juliet gives Romeo a ring as a symbol of their love.
