Exposition The protagonist lives in the same house as the old man, whom he is planning to kill. He doesn't like his eye.
Conflict The protagonist hates the old man's eye that resembles a vulture's. He describes it as soul-piercing.
Rising Action The protagonist stalks the old man for seven nights. He can't bring himself to kill the man, unless he sees the eye.
Climax The old man's eye is finally open on the 8th night, so he goes in for the kill. He suffocates the old man with his own mattress.
Falling Action The protagonist hides the body, and cleans the scene, though this commotion was not unheard. The police quickly arrive because of a concerned neighbor.
The protagonist confesses his crimes as he can't stand the sound of a beating heart (guilt). He is then arrested.
