Members of the Klu Klux Klan burned the Mt. Zion Baptist Church on June 16, 1664.
On June 21, 1964, Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney visited the church to investigate.
Why would someone do this?
The three men were pulled over by sheriff and Klansman, Cecil Price, who claimed they were suspects.
You are suspects of the church burning!
Schwerner, Chaney, and Goodman were arrested and spent seven hours in jail. Price bailed them out eventually, in order to kill them.
The men were shot to death by members of the KKK and then they were buried in a dam.
The bodies of the social workers were discovered on August 4, 1964.
