  • Members of the Klu Klux Klan burned the Mt. Zion Baptist Church on June 16, 1664.
  • On June 21, 1964, Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney visited the church to investigate.
  • Why would someone do this?
  • The three men were pulled over by sheriff and Klansman, Cecil Price, who claimed they were suspects.
  • You are suspects of the church burning!
  • Schwerner, Chaney, and Goodman were arrested and spent seven hours in jail. Price bailed them out eventually, in order to kill them.
  • The men were shot to death by members of the KKK and then they were buried in a dam.
  • The bodies of the social workers were discovered on August 4, 1964.
