The importance behind knowledge was Fredrick needed that knowledge to know certain things, he needed it for reading because he had books to read but without any form of knowledge he wouldn't be able to understand what he was doing.
Why were his thoughts important to express to them?
The bread was valuable to each kid because some of the little kids were poor and Fredrick still had it better than they did. Therefore the kids had the opportunity of knowledge and he had the bread which was a pretty good trade for both of them.
Fredrick wouldnt give out the names of the little boys because it was an unpardonable offense to teach slaves to read in the Christian country.
