The four sisters greet their mother when she comes home. Meg warms up her slippers, Jo waits for her on the piano bench,Beth plays piano, and Amy greets her with a hug.
The girls' father was a Chaplain in the Civil War in New England during the 1860s. So while their mother is at work the girls have to take care of themselves. The girls usually have to prepare meals, clean dishes , and all sorts of chores.
One day the girls mother gets a letter from their dad and he was very sick. So their mom went to the hospital and the girls were left home with their maid, Hannah. Beth got sick with scarlet fever!
Beth got so sick that Hannah summoned a doctor to check how Beth was doing. Since it was 1860 people didn't have a lot of medicne to cure scarlet fever like we do now. Hannah and the sisters thought she might pass away.
Meg later sent a letter to their mother and told her how Beth as feeling. Their mother replied back and told them their father was feeling better and she was coming home soon. After a while Beth started to get better and better and her sickness was going away.
Beth was fully better and their mom and father finally came home.
