Storyboard Text

  • Okay class, today we will have an experiment to work on to help further examine our unit on matter.
  • Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.
  • Now can anyone tell me, what is matter?
  • That is correct.
  • Our experiment is going to be the different stages lava can go through.
  • Inside the cups are an example of the lava. When lava is exposed to room temperature for a while, you can see it soon will take a solid state.
  • This state is called a solid because when pressure is released the atoms in the liquid come closer and for what we call a solid. But in lava, the solid state is what we call rock
  • This state is called a solid because when pressure is released the atoms in the liquid come closer and for what we call a solid. But in lava, the solid state is what we call rock
  • If you want it back to a liquid state known as lava, you will have to add a massive amount of pressure so the atoms will begin to spread apart and cause the matter to change back to a liquid/lava.
  • So in conclusion, when matter cools the particles come together tightly packed which is called a solid, and when a solid is heated back the particles spread apart to form a liquid state again.
