Hello My Name is April and I am here to tell you a bit about the Aztec and Mayan game Tlachtli. Come tour the playing fields with me as I tell you some facts about this Mesoamerican ball game.
In some ways Tlachtli is like football because the players wore padding to protect themselves.
In other ways it was like basketball because the goal of the game was to shoot a heavy rubber ball into a hoop/ring.
Finally, Tlachtli was like soccer because you could not touch the ball with your hands. You could only use your hips, feet, and torso.
Tlachtli was played with medium sized rubber balls that weighed over 4 kilos.
Hey look, We are back where we started.
