When the Choir and Other Boys Meet at the Beach
The splitting of the Boys
The Lord of the Flies "Appears" before Simon
The boys of the plane crash have gathered on the beach, because Ralph blew the conch, calling them to him. As others gathered on the beach they watched as a different group of boys emerge from the woods. "The group of boys are all dressed in black cloaks with a silver badge on their middle, walking in two parallel lines. Their leader, a boy with blonde hair and a golden badge on his chest asked, "Where's the man with the trumpet?" Ralph responds, "There's no man. Only me." The leader of the Choir, known as Jack, demanded for answers and attempted to establish himself as the dominant male in the island.
The death of Piggy
Many of the boys are conflicted on which boy to follow. They can either follow Jack or Ralph, and many are in the middle. There are many arguments between Ralph and Jack. "Rescue? Yes of course! All the same, I'd like to catch a pig first- ." Ralph retorted with, "As long as your hunters remember the fire-" "You and your fire!" The boys are back and forth until the make all of the boys living in the island decide who should be the leader, in the end many slip away to be with Jack.
The Search for Ralph
Simon is back into his special spot, when he sees the pig head. The head starts talking to Simon telling him to leave and about how every one thinks he is crazy. The flies on the pig were," black and iridescent green and without number ; and in front of Simon, the Lord of the flies hung on his stick and grinned." In reality Simon's mind is playing tricks on him, on the stick is a pig head but Simon thinks otherwise. The beast says to him, " You knew, didn't you? I'm a part of you? " The beast isn't a real beast Simon realizes, but before he can say anything to the others, they end his life
Rescue from the Island
The boys have been arguing about the signal fire and right now up on a hill/cliff is Roger with a boulder and a lever waiting to lean on it and make the great rock fall. Piggy and Jack have been yelling back and forth. A storm was brewing in the sky and among the boys. "-Rodger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever." Feeling the rock before seeing it Ralph looked up at the cliff to see the red rock crashing down, he flung himself out of the way. The rock hit Piggy, and without even time to grunt, Piggy fell 40ft and landed on a red rock. His blood spread, but the sea came in and took Piggy's body away.
Jack has turned the entire island against Ralph, he has started a hunt and everyone is looking for him. Jack has decided to hide in a thicket where the rock that killed Piggy landed in. "Heave, heave, heave!" The boys cry as they try to move the rock. Then they decide to smoke Ralph out. It works, but Ralph gets away. The chase is on, but because the tribe didn't think, the fire has spread throughout the entire island and now along with the tribe Ralph is running from the consuming fire.
Ralph is being pursued by Jack and the tribe, the island is going up in flames and as a last resort Ralph runs onto the beach. When he arrives at the beach he is greeted by a naval officer in full dress, complete with a tricolor and revolvers. The officer says to them,"We saw your smoke. What have you been doing? Having a war or something?" In response the boys agreed with the officer, when he asked about dead bodies the boys said two died, but the bodies are gone. The officer led them off the island and they were rescued.
