Whose that ?!
That's Jimmy, he hit me the other day
You're so weird ! What's your problem loser !
Little Jimmy is left home all alone while his mother goes to work for the day. His parents are no longer together and very rarely do they see each other (Hildyard et. al, 2002). When his mother comes home, she barely attends to him before going to her room to 'shoot up' (Dubowitz et. al, 2007; Hildyard et. al, 2002). Little Jimmy is hungry, bruised, scared and distressed (Hildyard et. al, 2002; Streek-Fischer, 2000).
Jimmy has issues making friends at school and often sits out of activities (Leeb et. al, 2011; Zolotor, 1998). Jimmy finds schoolwork hard and often has difficulties regulating his emotions and communicating with others, which has lead to disruptive and aggressive behaviour in the classroom (Mills, 2004; Leeb et. al, 2011; Zolotor, 1998). Jimmy feels alone, frustrated, stressed and sad (Leeb et. al 2011). No-one knows that Jimmy is often starved, beaten and emotionally neglected.
With low grades, no friends, frequent visits to the principles office for misconduct and poor school attendance, Jimmy leaves school (Dehon et. al, 2010; Fergusson, 2008; Zolotor, 1998). Jimmy resorts to drug use and self harm to deal with his psychological issues and emotional imbalances (Banyard et. al, 2006; Fergusson et. al, 2008; Sikes et. al, 2010; Widom, 2014).
