the prison and asylum reform
it was the mid 1800's and prisons were becoming over crowded, anyone could be thrown in jail, men woman children elderly and the clinnaly insane were all thrown in the same prison
prisoners were seen as worthless and treated poorly, especially those with disabilities,clinnacly insane, or had any mental disorder, this enraged many people such as
the incredible, Dorothea Dix, a young woman who was outraged at how prisons treated there inmates, specifically how they treated the mentally ill
Dorothea founded several mental asylums, such as the lunatic asylum so people with disability could be removed from other dangerous inmates and could be helped and possibly cured of there ailments.
in the end Dorothea helped and pretty much saved people with mental disorders survive and gave them a place where they can heal and be safe from the outside world
