Medusa boasted to everyone in her village about how beautiful she was. She told them her eyes were greener than the aegean sea and her and that her lips were redder than the reddest rose.
When she was by herself and had no one to boast to, she would boast to herself in a mirror.
One day Medusa and her friends went to the Parthenon, which is the biggest temple in Greece and dedicated to the beautiful goddess of wisdom, Athena.
As Medusa passed the statues she would say that the statues were good, but they would be better if they were of her.
When Medusa got to the magnificent statue of Athena she said that its such a shame it was wasted on Athena, for she thought that she was much prettier than she is. Everyone else quickly fled the temple as everyone knew that Athena would get angry is she was compared to someone else.
Athena had heard Medusa's claims and she appeared next to her. She turned Medusa into a terrible monster and cursed her so that anyone who dares looks apon her face will turn to stone. Athena then banished her to a mouldy old cave to live with the gorgon sisters at the end of the earth.
