  •  "Every morning, when the day broke, I went boldly into the chamber.
  • "And every night, about midnight, I turned the latch of his door and opened it – oh so gently! "
  • Rising Action

  • Climax
  • "He shrieked once-once only. In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him. I smiled gaily to find the deed was so far done."
  • The narrator is entering the house of the old man with the vulture eye, he is planning to kill the old man.
  • Falling Action
  • "First of all I dismembered the corpse. I cut off the head and the arms and the legs...no blood spot whatever... A tub ha caught all-ha! ha!"
  • The Narrator is attempting to open the door where the old man's bedroom is.
  • Conclusion
  • "Villains! I shrieked, dissembled no more! I admit the deed! tear up the planks! here, here!- It is the beating of his hideous heart!"
  • The narrator has done his deed and killed the old man while smiling gaily at his death
  • The narrator puts the old man in the tub to cut him up into pieces
