The Haymarket Riot
BETTER WORKING CONDITIONS
On May 4, 1886 a group of workers in Chicago were protesting the death of a few factory workers, who had died due to unsafe conditions.
The police began to show up in order to control the protest.
An unknown man from inside the crowd saw the police, and.....
THREW A BOMB THAT KILLED A POLICE OFFICER AND WOUNDED OTHER OFFICERS AND PROTESTERS.
In response, the police began to shoot at the protesters, and a few protesters fired back.
After the demonstrations, at least seven police were killed along with one civilian. This protest made many people view protesting factory workers barbaric, and set back the progress of worker's rights.
