Last chapter of The Ramayana

Storyboard Text

  • Rama and Sita returned to Ayodhya, but Rama was troubled. Many people thought that Sita had been unfaithful to Rama while she was in Lanka. Because of this, Rama decided to send Sita away from Ayodhya forever. He ordered his brother Lakshmana to take her into the forest.
  • I cannot rule Ayodhya and not have my people respect my queen... Before dawn tomorrow you and Sumantra will take Sita back to the forest. Leave her there and return.
  • The next morning, fog covered Ayodhya as Lakshmana and Sumantra brought Sita into the forest. When Sita saw Lakshmana crying, he explained the task that he was ordered to carry out. Sumantra gives Sita some advice.
  • Let us not grow old thinking that truth is what most people see or say it is. Sita, you will get back to Rama only by entering this forest. This world is like a breath on a mirror. It does not last. Have patience.
  • Sita says goodbye to Lakshmana and Sumantra, and they leave her in the forest. She hears the river goddess speak to her, telling her to come home. She is about to step into the river when Valmiki, an old hermit, stops her and invites her to live with him.
  • Let life go, Sita. Do not outlive life. Come home. Come home. Dive into me.
  • Do not enter the river!
  • Sita gave birth to Rama's twin sons, Kusa and Lava. For the next twelve years, they and Valmiki lived together in the forest. Valmiki, who was also a poet, wrote a poem called the Ramayana, which he taught Kusa and Lava how to sing while playing the flute and the drum.
  • In Ayodhya, Rama decided to have a festival for everyone in the kingdom. Lava and Kusa came to recite the Ramayana. Rama loved the poem, and was shocked to learn that these were his sons. He sent for Sita to return to Ayodhya, and she came the next day.
  • These are my sons!
  • Sita proved her innocence to Rama by asking Mother Earth to take her home if she was faithful. The ground opened and took Sita away. Rama ruled for another thousand years, until he decided he wanted to go home as well. He stepped into the river, going to heaven with his brothers. All of his followers entered after him.
  • Kusa and Lava traveled all throughout India, singing the Ramayana.
  • Men who listen to the Ramayana will live a long life... free of sins. Women who listen to the Ramayana will be blessed with children like Rama and his brothers. All those who listen please Rama... regularly find increased love, wisdom, and strength.
  • The End
