  • The Party
  • "Hello dear Fortunato! Would you like some mighty fine wine?"
  • "Wine?! Oh how marvoulous, please do lead the -coughs- way!"
  • Heading towards fate
  • I can't wait to drink from the -cough - Amontialo!
  • We are almost there, we can turn back if you'd like but the wine is amazing
  • ahh yes! What a wonderful joke
  • Revenge at last
  • Oh, you are a funny one! This is a very -cough cough- funny joke!
  • The two men began a conversation on where wine was, little did Fortunato know that what awaited him wasn't the greatest of fates.
  • Symbolism: The Amontialo
  • Wine is amazing, it is glorious -couch- Wine, wine -cough- wine !
  • As the two men traveled down deeper into the catacombs, they noticed the horrid scent and the random patches of mold along the walls
  • Tone
  • The wine is amazing?
  • Yes yes, it is the best wine you'll ever taste, but we must go down into the catacombs for it
  • Fortunato was clueless, thinking that being closed in a wall was a joke! But the twisted man that was paving the bricks knew this was anything but a joke.
  • Anti-Transcendentalism
  • The Amontialo was a representation of Symbolism for it was continuously mentioned through out the poem. It was the reason Fortunato fell for Montresser's plan for revenge.
  • Fortunato's tone appeared to be joyful and curious but, Montresser's tone was serious and secretive.
  • The whole style and setting was rather odd through out the poem. Montresser wanted to build a wall over Fortunato so he could suffocate a horrid death. The date they were in was a medieval like setting
