Extinction: The death of an entire species.
What could eventually lead a species to extinction? A low reproductive rate in a species; limited environments the species could survive/thrive in; a catastrophic environmental event; etc
When most people think of a mass extinction they think of the dinosaurs. Dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago. While the cause of this extinction is still debated, most people believe it was due to a meteor.
Why was the event that led to the end of dinosaurs considered an extinction? Because it wiped out ALL of the dinosaurs and extinction is defined as the death of an ENTIRE species.
