  • If you do not agree with me, I guess I will have someone else taste this wine!
  • Take me to this wine! I insist!
  • I toast to the delicious wine.

  • You have insulted me so now you must stay here and rot!
  • Fortunato, the man in black clothes and blonde hair, convinced Montresor to go into the wine cellar with him.
  • Motif: Amontillado
  • Amontillado!
  • Each of the men made toasts with the wine bottle. But Fortunato's was a bit strange.
  • Symbol: The brick wall
  • Fortunato tied Montresor up and built a wall to enclose him. He did this in revenge for Montresor had insulted him.
  • Theme: Fortunato lied
  • If you do not agree with me, I guess I will have someone else taste this wine!
  • The men kept repeating the name of the wine, as they "went to get it".
  • The bricks represent Fortunato "building a wall" to block his feelings of hatred towards Montresor. Like he's putting away Montresor's insults so that Fortunato can be happy.
  • You have insulted me so now you must stay here and rot!
  • Part of the theme is that Fortunato lied to Montresor about the wine because that was Montorato's consequences for insulting him. That means that the theme is that you get consequences for you actions, being that Montorato's consequences was Fortunato's trick.
  • Take me to this wine! I insist!
