Storyboard Text

  • Beginning
  • Middle
  • End
  • Montressor speaks to Fortunato about how he has acquired a cask of Amontillado.
  • Tone
  • Montressor tries to tell Fortunato that they should leave because of Fortunato's cough, but he disagrees.
  • Symbolism
  • Montressor builds a wall and encloses Fortunato in a tomb to die in.
  • Motif
  • The tone that Edgar Allan Poe instills within the story is very dark and gloom. This is reflected within the dark and damp catacombs that Furtunato is killed in.
  • Poe uses many symbols in his writings. One main idea that he seems to always abide by when using symbols is to always be dark and, "gothic." This is still true within this text, with his use of skeletons and remains in the catacombs. They represent death and almost foreshadow what will happen to Fortunato.
  • A motif that Poe uses repeatedly in the text is Montressor telling Fortunato that he is worried for his health, and Fortunato saying he won't die from a cough.
