Storyboard Text

  • Odysseus was home at last and was now being bathed and rubbed with oils. Athena restored his beauty. Odysseus was made taller and more muscular with hair like gold.
  • The glorified Odysseus confronts his beloved wife after many years of being away. "Who else in the world would keep aloof as you do from her husband if he returned to her from years of trouble, cast on his own land in the twentieth year?"
  • Penelope, not trusting of this strange man, said to him, "Make up his bed for him, Eurycleia. Place it outside the bedchamber my lord built with his own hands."
  • Odysseus became outraged by Penelope's remark. No mortal has the power to move the bed that Odysseus had built.
  • Odysseus had built their bed out of an old olive tree trunk years ago. This was the secret they shared. Penelope knew at last that Odysseus has finally returned home.
  • "So she too rejoiced, her gaze upon her husband, her white arms round him pressed as though forever."
