  • From 1485 to 1603, England was ruled by Tudor Monarchs. Although Tudors believed in divine right, they shrewdly recognized the value of good relations with Parliament.
  • As was the case when King Henry VIII broke with the Catholic Church, and required Parliament to legalize his actions
  • He also frequently consulted Parliament after his inheritance had diminished due to numerous overseas wars.
  • When Elizabeth I took the throne, she also consulted with Parliament on important matters.
  • Due to her involvement with Parliament, Queen Elizabeth I became a popular and successful ruler.
