  • Man vs. Self: An example of this is after Johnny kills Bob, since Johnny and Pony start to panic and cannot control themselves.

  • Man vs. Society: Randy tells Ponyboy that he would not be at the rumble that night since he was sick and tired of all of the fighting. He was against what everybody else was doing because of his personal code of honor.
  • We can't wait for the rumble tonight!
  • I don't want to fight anymore.
  • Man vs. Man: After coming home late at night, Ponyboy is yelled at by Darry. Darry was worried sick about Pony, and didn't know where Pony had been. They get into an argument, showing a conflict between two people.
  • I lost track of time...
  • Where have you been? You never think, Pony! You never use your head!
