The attack on the mead hall is a conflict that will call to the hero but beowulf is nowhere to be found. This is the beginning of beowulfs adventure. In the last frame, the story introduces grendel and demonstrates his lust for blood. Grendel will be beowulfs first trial, the first evil.
The news was known over the whole world. Sad lays were sung about the beset king, The vicious raids of Grendel, His long and unrelenting feud, Nothing but war; how he would never Parley or make peace with any Dane Nor stop his death-dealing nor pay the death-price. (150-156)
In the last quote, the states that grendel is waging war against hrothgar and is terrorizing his people. This situation adds pressure onto the hero.
"He ordered a boat that would ply the waves. He announced his plan: To sail the swan’s roads and search out that king, The famous prince who needed defenders."(198-201)
At this point of the story, the hero, Beowulf, has answered the call the hero and is on his way to assist Hrothgar to begin his journey.
