Grandma, today I signed on with the voyageurs. Our family needs the money. Especially now that dad has passed.
His muscles are sore after leaving St. Annes. His brigade is good but no one talks but he is ok with that. He misses his home, his sisters, and his grandmother. This is harder than chores and work at home. His hands are bleeding and blistered he had never been in so much pain in his life.
After a long day of canoeing they came to their first rapids. His hands were bleeding and blistered from paddling. Since the rapids were too strong they decided to portage. But that is not any easier than paddling. Now his feet are sore and his hands are still bleeding.
Now his brigade is paddling on the great lakes, to him it seems just like the rivers only there is water surronding you, but his group is hugging the shore line. So far no huge waves.
His brigade is almost there he can see Grand Portage. There is a buzz of excitment in the air. But it is silent he hears only the sound of the paddles. He can't believe his eyes they made it. The brigade of newbies made it.
He decided to return to Lachine because his family didn't want him to be gone that long. But he promised himself he would come back next year. Being a voyageur is hard work and toughened him up. He actually enjoys paddling and his brigade. But he knew he wouldn't be able to winter over anytime soon. But overall he enjoyed being a voyageur. By: Daniella Sabetti Hour 3
