Storyboard Text

  • sorry, ill go to the store tomorrow
  • Cheeze susan, sat at home all day again
  • Did you even do these dishes. Do you even do anything. You're useless
  • I'm sorry. I know I am.
  • I'm going to hit you harder next time.
  • Susan and her husband have been married for 4 years, and hurtful comments have become everyday events as her husband has been under a lot of stress.
  • I...I..had to I couldn't take it anymore, he was going to kill me
  • I rule in favour of the defence. I find the accused not criminally repressible as she felt she had no other choice.
  • Hurtful comments have now developed into severe verbal abuse. This has become so bad that Susan has become deeply depressed, and has been made to feel like she is at fault.
  • For years.
  • How long was he physically abusing you Susan?
  • Her husband's abuse towards her has now culminated into constant physical abuse. Susan is now in constant fear of him, and has entered a state of hopelessness and feels trapped.
  • Due to the years of abuse, Susan had entered a vicious cycle of depression and hopelessness also known as battered woman syndrome. Her fear of her husband ultimalty caused her to act against him in a violent way, killing him.
  • Battered woman syndrome is a liable defence. If proven that the victim had suffered physical abuse for a long term, Insane automatismcan can be used as a defence as the victim was suffering from a mental disorder of hopelessness and extreme depression. Due to her fear from her husband, she felt as if defending herself was her only option, even if the threat was not imitate.
  • Even though Susan was acquitted of the murder as she was suffering from battered woman syndrome and was not criminally responsible the symptoms of depression and guilt still plague her. It may take her years to recover from the abuse of her husband. Millions of woman share Susan's story, and if you know of anyone suffering , let them know they are not alone.
