  • Husbands and wives always loved each other, and that was what marriage meant
  • Carriage Ride
  • You come in heah wid yo' mouf full uh foolishness on a busy day
  • A Talk with Nanny
  • Cause you told me Ah mus gointer love him, and, and Ah don't
  • Janie and Logan got married in Nanny's parlor on a Saturday evening with three cakes and big platters of fried rabbit and chicken
  • Stiff as you is Stout
  • If you can stand not to chop and tote wood Ah reckon you can stand not to git no dinner
  • If Ah kid haul de wood heah and chop it fuh yuh, look lak you oughta be able tuh tote it inside
  • Janie and Logan took a carriage back to his house, but nobody put anything on the seat to make it ride glorious.
  • What If I Left
  • I just have to wait for love to begin
  • S'posin' Ah wuz to run off and leave yuh sometime
  • After a little over 2 months Janie still didn't love Logan, so she went to talk with Nanny. Nanny tells Janie that she is lucky to have a man that can treat her right.
  • Janie's Leaving
  • You ain't got no particular place. It's wherever ah need yuh. Git uh move on yuh, and dat quick
  • Logan stopped talking to Janie in rhythms and grew tired of her not helping around the house.
  • After meeting Joe, Janie asks Logan how he would feel if she ran away. Logan, feeling hurt, try's to ignore the conversation and not talk about his feelings.
  • Ah'm  gettin' sleepy, Janie. Let's don't talk no mo'
  • Janie, after trying to love Logan, reaches her final stray and after arguing with him, Janie leaves Logan to run off with Joe Starks.
  • You don't need mah help out dere, Logan. Youse in yo' place and Ah'm in mine
