George Washington was the first president of the United States. He created a strong executive branch and central government that still exists today.
Thomas Jefferson was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He led the Democratic-Republicans, and supported the state governments more so than the federal government.
John Adams refused to pay off France after Jay's Treaty. This resulted in an undeclared naval war between France and the United States. He also passed the Alien and Sedition Acts.
Under the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, the Louisiana Purchase was bought. The US gained 828,000 square miles of land.
