Keenan the kangaroo and Tyler the turtle are both very good friends to each other and are both interested in to looking into how the government works. Keenan the kangaroo says, “I know that the Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments to the US Constitution.” Tyler the turtle replies, “And I know that the preamble is what the government says that they will do for the country.” So they go to their local government facility and ask loads of questions. They ask about the Articles of Confederation and why they failed, they asked about a bunch of terms on the US Constitution, they asked about the free exercise and establishment clauses and how they work, and they also ask about how the expressed, concurrent, and reserved powers work to keep our government in balance and working for the citizens. The government then explains to them what the First Amendment is and how it works. The official says, "The First Amendment is about how the people of the United States have freedoms, and that they are to say what they want, wear what they want, practice any religion they want, and publish any newspaper article they want as long as the information is correct.
He also explains popular sovereignty, which is the right of the people to have a say in the government. He also says that the separation of powers helps to separate the government so that they do not have too much power in one part of government and that these 3 separate branches of government can check each other to make sure they are all correct, known as the system of Check and Balances. Finally, he discussed how a form of a republic government came along around the idea of Federalism.
