I covered his body pieces with the 3 pieces of planks.
There entered three police officers and they were here to investigate about the shriek the neighbor heard during the middle of the night.
Then I heard the knocking at the street door. I came and opened the door for what I now had to fear?
I placed it so cleverly that nobody would see a difference. Now nobody knows about this except for the bathtub.
I welcomed the officers and let them search around the house.
I explained that the shriek was from my dream and that the old man was not in the country.
I invited the officers to the old man's bedroom and asked them to rest in the chairs from their fatigues.
I was so confident that I placed my chair on the place where I buried the old man.
The sound became louder and louder until I could bear it no more.
I began talking faster and I paced the floor with heavy strides, but the noise continued to grow.
It became so loud that even the officers could have heard it and they were laughing at me.
Dissemble no more! Here it is, tear up the planks and you'll find the beating of his hideous heart!
We chatted together, but soon I heard the old man's heartbeat as it got louder and faster.
