  • Washington was tired of taking sides. He wanted to stay neutral.
  • Jay’s Treaty
  • Privateers are private ships hired by someone to attack.
  • Washington and Jefferson were having a disagreement whether to help the French or not to. Washington didn’t want to because it would be breaking neutrality. Jefferson thought differently.
  • Jay’s Treaty was to settle some of the disputes that had arisen between the United States and Great Britain in the early 1790s.
