  • Virginia
  • Why should the larger states have more reps just because they are bigger! It makes it seem as though some states matter more than others. I propose that every state has equal representation.
  • The Great Compromise

  • Virginia
  • That is where you are wrong my friend! Larger states NEED more reps because they have MORE people. More people equals more input, and us large states propose that representation is proportional to the amount of people in that state!
  • George Washington
  • New Jersey
  • Virginia
  • This is what has been agreed upon: two houses of representatives called the House and the Senate. Each state will have 2 reps in the Senate, and their number of reps in the House will be proportional to the number of people in their state. Agreed?
  • Agreed!

  • While we do not fully view our slaves as men with rights, they still do, however, warrant full representation! If we are to ever have representatives in this country, slaves MUST be accounted for in full.
  • The Three-Fifths Compromise
  • South
  • North
  • Nonsense! You say that you do not consider a slave a man, yet you want them to be counted in your population in your favor. Us states in the North not only disagree with you on the basis of slavery, but only over my dead body will you ever have your population inflated by counting the slaves that you do not even consider human! Blasphemy!
  • George Washington
  • South
  • Men, men, settle down. We have agreed on a compromise to settle this matter: instead of slaves being counted in full, or not at all, they will be counted as 3/5 of the states total slave population. That way you both will have to give a little to get what you want. Agreed?
