Storyboard Text

  • Kingdom is a small area controlled by one monarch. Monarchy is all/most power is in hands of one individual (hereditary). Nation is a community of people who share territory and a government.
  • It was 1:30 in morning on a Tuesday and Jessica was up studying for her social studies test the next day. She had been reading over the material for days now but though she knew everything, she still did not feel ready.
  • 2016
  • Against her intentions, eventually she drifted asleep; but her mind stayed on the social studies information that she had memorized like the back of her hand.
  • Z Z Z
  • Jessica was woken up by two people she did not recognize screaming and crying. As she looked at the corpse next to her, she realized the young boy must have died of the pneumonic plague like most of the population had.
  • NOO! He was coughing a lot, but he didn't have buboes so I suspected he didn't have the plague. I never thought about the pneumonic plague.
  • 1405 CE
  • The plague, bubonic or pneumonic, killed about one third of the population during this time. This was known as "the Dark Age". Jessica and her new friends walked through the streets in search for a new place to settle.
  • The fleas are carrying the plague, they live on the rats that live along side of us. Over half of the population has died already.
  • After walking around for a bit, socializing with the two people Jessica had met in the small house, she realized she was no longer wandering the streets of Europe. She was now in Sub Saharan Africa, making her journey to the Hajj with another person whom she recognized from her social studies text book.
  • Hello! I am Mansa Musa!
  • Mansa Musa welcomed Jessica on his trip to the Hajj and even traded things with her and her group. They were given salt to preserve the meat that they had.
  • Thank you! And good luck on your trip, but we have a ship to catch very soon.
