  • George Frideric Handel Goes Shopping: Episode IV
  • Oh hey, didn't see you there. I'm George Frideric Handel and today I'm going shopping. Being a famous composer and musician, you'd think I'd have people to do this for me, but no. So, let's get started!
  • George! Nice to see you again. I was just telling my son all about you! I told him how you were born in Halle, Germany, on February 23 of 1685. And that your parents were Georg and Dorothea Handel. Are all my facts correct?
  • They indeed are. I am kind of creeped out you know that much about me, but anyway, as a child, I desperately wanted to study music. My mother was supportive, but my father objected. I must be on my way. Good talking to you!
  • Finally, I get can my shopping done.
  • Great...
  • Oh, Mr. Handel! I've been meaning to talk with you. I have some questions about yourself I hoped you could answer.
  • Who inspired to become a composer? What would you say your contribution to our time period is? And also, do you have any theories/philosophies you would like to share with me?
  • I guess you could say the person who inspired me was my first teacher, Friedrich Wilhem Zachow. My most famous piece, Messiah, is a work of art and I believe it is the greatest thing contributed to this time period.
  • Not to brag, but I believe Messiah will continue to be performed during the Easter and Christmas season 300 years from now (wink wink). I don't really have any philosophies, but I can say that I have raised money for charities, hospitals, and debtors prisons. I love to help people.
  • Why hello! I am the ghost of George Frideric Handel. As you can probably tell, I died. It was April 14, 1759. It was the same day I was trying to go shopping, but no one would stop talking to me!!! Oh well, at least I can listen to my beautiful compositions on this boom box.
  • 300 years later....
