Storyboard Text

  • POVERTY
  • I wish I were magical, but I am really just a poor-ass reservation kid living with his poor-ass family on the poor-ass Spokane Indian Reservation.
  • In ADOPTI a meaningful lesson is that poverty cant stop one from achieving greatness.
  • These are your math books for the year.
  • Yep so that means I was staring at a geometry book that was at least 30 years older than I was.
  • THIS BOOK IS OLDER THAN ME!!!
  • POVERTY
  • Three times, I had to walk the whole way home. Twenty-two miles. I got blisters each time.
  • Spokane Reservation 22 miles
  • Poverty ruins lives. Junior is a great cartoonist; he could be an illustrator for newspapers. But he lives on a poor reservation. The odds are stacked against him. But he keeps on persevering. He wants it so he will try to achieve it. And he does.
  • Poverty ruins education. How does one get a good education at a school that has old text books. And this is all because the school does not have enough money to buy new education. But what does he do? He switches school. he is turned into an outcast because of his color. But he keeps on going.
  • Junior and his family is so poor that sometimes they don't have enough money for gas. It is more than a 20 mile drive to Reardan from the Reservation and sometimes Junior cant get a ride back from school. That is over a 20 mile walk or he has to hitchhike. But that doesn't stop him from attending school. He keeps on going to school every day and he gets good grades. He doesn't let their poverty drag him down.
