Hi, my name is James Madison and I am a delegate from Virginia. I believe in the Virginia Plan and that the larger states should have more representation than the smaller states because we have more people that need more representation. The states of larger population should be represented proportionally.
Hello. My name is Roger Sherman, a delegate from Connecticut. I am an enthusiast for the New Jersey Plan which states that the smaller states and and the bigger states shall have equal representation in Congress. It is just simply unfair if the larger states get more representation! The small states matter too!
On behalf of both of these states, we will make the Great Compromise! There will be both equal and proportional representation in Congress. The Senate will be represented equally with 2 reps per state, and the House of Representatives will be represented proportionally, with reps according to size of the state.
Hello. I am here to argue my stance on slavery representation for the North! We believe that it is simply injest to not count slaves when collecting taxes. Slaves are people and are taking up the population (and representation) of the southern states. If they count when it comes to taxes, they should not count when it comes to representation in Congress for that state.
Hello. I came here today to discuss what the southern states believe on slavery representation. We believe that the slaves should not be counted for taxation due to their lack of citizenship in these states. Also, we believe that these slaves should indeed be counted as people for representation in Congress.
Thank you for presenting both sides of this argument. To make this debate fair, we have decided to count three-fifths of all slaves for representation in Congress. We will call it the Three-Fifths Compromise!
