  • In the beginning the German troops came to Elie's town and began to section of the Jews. Elie watches in the back ground with his little sister, not knowing his world would never be the same again. 
  • Falling Action
  • Elie and his father are sectioned off from their family and live in a concentration camp. Every so often they face selection which is the road between life or death. 
  • Resolution
  • Elie and his father are able to make it up to every selection up to this point. However now they are being evacuated from the camp to another and must travel through the harsh winter weather. Elie goes on with his foot wrapped and bleeding and also faces challenges that question his actions.  
  • Theme
  • 
  • Now Elie is on his own. His father got very ill and was probably taken away in the middle of the night. During this time Elie is only concerned with eating, nothing else. 
  • A  little time after they were liberated form the concentration camps. Soldiers came into the camps, surprised and discussed at what they  saw but the campers had no response. In the end they had gorged on what ever food they could find. Elie had gotten poisoned and went to they hospital, and when he went to the mirror he saw a corpse. 
  • Indifference means no difference and Elie gave a speech many years later explaining indifference. Indifference is a punishment and there fore helpful to the aggressors. Many within the camps had believed the world had turned away from them and that if they knew about it they would have done something. However, they did know, the United States knew, and made no difference. This is a horrible fact but many indeed knew what was happening and not acting cost many lives.
