At the begining of the book, Steve doesn't care much about his case. All he does is write a movie script about what is happening. Towards the middle of the book, Steve starts caring and putting effort forth into his case. At the end of the book, his effort in the case has helped him win the case with the help of Miss O'Brien. Steve continued to write his movie script all through the trial.
At the begining of the book Miss O'Brien doesn't care about Steve at all. She treats his case like a regular case and just does her job. As the book goes on, Kathy starts caring more about Steve and the case. She starts helping him by asking him questions about what happened and telling him how to answer questions. By the end of the book Kathy starts telling Steve little bits about her personel life.
